Seeds Bought Online Result in $190,000 Fine
The CCB was told that a cultivation had cannabis seeds from unauthorized sources. On June 16, 2022, three agents from the CCB’s staff conducted an investigation of the cultivation at which the agents claimed to have found 63 packages of cannabis seeds purchased from online cannabis seed banks from October 2020 to July 2021. The agents interviewed the Inventory Control & Compliance Manager who allegedly told the CCB Agents that the cannabis seeds found on site were acquired by the Purchasing and Procurement Manager (PPM) who was a medical patient and had acquired and donated the cannabis seeds. When the PPM was interviewed, she allegedly said that she purchased the cannabis seeds online using the company’s funds and never used her own personal funds to purchase the seeds and did not donate the seeds. In additionally, CCB agents noted that the PPM did not receive her medical marijuana patient registry card until January 5, 2021. Some of the seeds were acquired prior to that date. The counsel for the CCB is requesting Tryke’s license to be revoked and penalties of $190,000.
“Curaleaf announced its acquisition of Tryke in November 2021 and the transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2022. We are closely monitoring the CCB’s citations against the company and are confident that Tryke’s management will take all steps necessary to correct and prevent these issues from reoccurring. Curaleaf takes its regulatory compliance responsibilities seriously. As we finalize preparations to close the acquisition, we will institute our strict regulatory, compliance and SOP guidelines.” Info.
