The Gary Payton marijuana strain is the collaborative effort between Berner’s Cookies and Powerzzz Genetics. Bred by Powerzzz Genetics under Cookies, Gary Payton was created by crossing Snowman with The Y (a.k.a Y Griega).

Snowman is a phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies with a THC level averaging 23%. The Y is a cross between Cookies and Cherry Pie and has a THC content ranging from 17% to 28%. With a genetic composition like this, the Gary Payton marijuana strain is sure to live up to the same reputation as its namesake.

But how did the strain get its name? As the story goes, during the pheno hunting period, it was the 20th phenotype that displayed the most desirable traits, and thus phenotype 20 was drafted. 

NBA Hall of Famer Gary “The Glove” Payton wore number 20, and it seemed almost cosmic to name such a top-quality strain in honor of this remarkable player.

And what a fitting name it turned out to be. The THC level ranges from 15% to 25%. There’s very little CBD (less than 5%), but a robust terpene profile ensures the strain hits all the best therapeutic markers.
